Strawberry creamed honey French toast

Strawberry creamed honey French toast

The skillet is already hot when the bread goes in. I whisk strawberry creamed honey into the egg and milk, soak two thick bakery slices, then fry them in butter until they brown at the edges. Cheap sandwich bread turns to mush; I leave it in the bag.

I eat it at the counter, standing, and smear more honey on while the toast is still hot enough to pull it thin.

Ingredients

  • 2 thick slices bakery bread, about 3/4 inch
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons Creamed Honey — Strawberry, plus more to spread on the finished toast
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, for the skillet

Putting it together

  1. Whisk the egg, milk, and 2 tablespoons of strawberry creamed honey in a shallow dish until the honey loosens into the egg.
  2. Lay the bread in the dish, 20 to 30 seconds a side, until the slices are soaked but not falling apart.
  3. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook the slices 2 to 3 minutes a side, until the faces are gold and the edges take a little color.
  5. Plate them and spread another smear of Creamed Honey — Strawberry on the hot French toast.

Tips

Cheap sandwich bread turns to mush in the soak. Use a loaf you would put on a board. If the honey is cold and stiff, work it into the egg with the back of a spoon before you add the bread.
